Speech Prosody 2002
The need for effective perception of pronounced proper names in many situations of professional contact was the inspiration for this research, which focuses on perception/misperception of French names by Czech students of Translatology. The cardinal problem does not lie on segmental level, but in prosody, namely in the domain of rhythm, which shows considerable differences in the two languages. The present-day life exposes us to a large range of different situations where both a correct realization and a successful perception of foreign proper names is an absolute necessity.
