The Speech Communication Best Paper Award is presented at Interspeech during even-numbered years. The recipient is selected from papers published within the previous five years by a joint committee of Speech Communication editorial board members and ISCA board members. To ensure a definitive selection, the committee always maintains an odd number of voting members.

The Editor-in-Chief first prepared a suggested shortlist based on citation impact as well as an assessment of the papers’ long-term merits. The committee members are also allowed to nominate additional papers.
