The primary objective of the ISCA Training Program is to develop the knowledge of students with interests in speech communication. It is essential that we provide development opportunities for this important group of members, who represent the future of ISCA. With the aiim of promoting education and training in Speech Communication, ISCA supports the following activities.

ISCA Training Schools

ISCA welcomes proposals from prospective organisers of Training Schools, which are typically summer schools or winter schools geared towards providing graduate students, early stage researchers, and practitioners with background knowledge of selected topics in speech communication. Priority will be given to proposals from countries where the presence of ISCA (in terms of membership) is limited.

ISCA supports training schools with a contribution for the costs of invited lecturers (travel expenses and daily allowance, but not lecture fees) and student grants. Proposers may apply using the ISCA workshop application portal.

Important Dates:

For best consideration, proposers should submit their proposals, following the guidelines summarised in the Call for Proposals document referenced above,

• by February 15th, for Summer Schools, and
• by July 15th, for Winter Schools.

ISCA Seminar Program

ISCA wishes to distribute important materials for education purposes and make them accessible and available to all students and researchers working on speech and language processing worldwide via ISCA web sites. We believe this is a good approach to maximize the impact of lectures and disseminate the concepts discussed to our students and colleagues.

We are looking for lectures describing established algorithms and systems which are considered to be the state-of-the-art in their domain as well as for lectures providing overviews of specific topics in speech communication.

Lecturers who agree to participate in this ISCA program must provide their permission and support to perform the dissemination of the produced material for ISCA. For this purpose they will sign the ISCA “Consent and Release” form prepared by ISCA asking for lecturer's permission to do the above. Please note that although the lecturers permit ISCA to distribute their lectures, the ownership of all intellectual property rights are retained by the lecturers. In case there are more than one contributor for a lecture, the ISCA “Consent and Release” form must be signed by all of them.

ISCA Student Collaboration Grants

These grants support students who, as part of their training, would benefit from collaborating with students in institutions other than their own. For example, 

• a student working in an institution which does not have a speech research group may visit one that does in order to collaborate with students there, 
• conversely, a student already working on a Speech Research Ph.D. may visit an institution which does not have a speech group in order to collaborate with students there.ISCA will pay travel expenses for successful applications, to a maximum of 800 Euro. ISCA will not meet any other costs. 

Proposals should be made, by the student's supervisor(s) to education@isca-speech.org. Supervisors must be members of ISCA. 

Proposals should explain the collaboration programme and supply the CV(s) of the students concerned.  

ISCA encourages the student’s home school and potential host institution to consider providing some form of contribution to match the ISCA support . ISCA will need to prioritise applications based on available resources, and those applications with supplementary support for the students will be favoured.
