Industrial PhD – Improved Speech Communication Using Personalized Voice Models

2025-09-17 15:07 | Anonymous member

Do you want to contribute to our purpose of Bringing People Closer and help creating the future of communication?

Here is an opportunity to do research in a topic that affects billions of people, and explore new ways technology can support human communication.

We are looking for skilled candidates committed to research, innovation, science, and math who want to climb the academic ladder and do a PhD together with two prominent organizations supported by the Innovation Fund Denmark.

The goal of the PhD is to capture high quality speech signals in noisy and adverse environments using speech enhancement methods combining adaptive voice models with machine learning techniques. You will find yourself in the intersection between emerging research domains and innovations where real-life constraints such as complexity, cost, and speed apply.

On this journey, you will have supervisors from both GN and Aalborg University and be able to leverage the knowledge, platforms, and lab facilities from both organizations. A setup, providing solid academic and corporate foundation with freedom to explore.

The primary location is GN with extended stays at Aalborg University where you will be enrolled. At GN you will be part of the research team – GN Advanced Science – a diverse, local, and global team with a variety of experts on topics related to signals, audio, and sound. We have an open, engaging, inclusive, hybrid way of working and a flexible workday.

What your colleagues say about working at GN:

“Over my years of working in academia and industry both, what I love the most about working at GN Advanced Science, is the unique opportunity to explore the field and research as a scientist but also develop and implement the ideas into the final products being used by millions of users in their daily speech communication experience.”, Lead Research Scientist, Pejman Mowlaee

“As a researcher in GN Advanced Science, I love the opportunity to explore the field and address the challenges from the real world. I am passionate about designing innovative solutions with the aim of contributing to the final products. It is incredibly rewarding to see how the products with my contributions bring actual benefits to our users in their daily lives.”, Senior Research Scientist, Ziyue Zhao

We imagine that you:

  • Have an extensive background in digital signal processing or machine learning and interest in both.
  • Have substantial experience with Python and understand scientific computing.
  • Have knowledge of recent CNNs, MLPs, RNNs, GANs and transformers.
  • Have considerable experience with a deep learning framework like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Possess a relevant master's degree and a keen enthusiasm for earning a PhD
  • Are curious about the cross-field between classic signal processing and new ML methods.
  • Are adept at managing tasks on your own.
  • Are able to communicate in English and collaborate across
